Expansion Batteries

You have a power station that almost does the job. Maybe it runs the fridge for a night but not two, or the CPAP and a few lights but not the whole weekend. This page helps you decide whether a matching expansion battery is a smarter, cheaper fix than replacing the whole unit.

Small batteries for compact stations

BLUETTI B80/B80P Expansion Battery

$499.00

B80 Battery Expansion Cable (1.83m)

$59.00

The B80 and B80P are the small end of the range. The retailer lists 806Wh, three DC outlets (a 100W USB-C, an 18W USB-A and a 12V/10A car port), and a pairing with the AC60. It also mentions use as a power bank with the AC180, EB3A, EB55 and EB70S. That makes it a sensible top-up for weekend camping, phone and laptop charging, or a CPAP on a short trip. It is light on capacity, so it suits modest loads.

The longer expansion cable is worth knowing about. At up to 1.83 metres, it lets you place the AC60 and a B80 further apart. That helps in a van or a tent where space is awkward.

Mid-size batteries with their own ports

BLUETTI B210 Expansion Battery

$1,299.00

BLUETTI B230 Expansion Battery

$999.00

The B210 (2,150Wh) and B230 (2,048Wh) sit in the middle. The B230 description lists a 100W USB-C, a 12V/10A car output and a USB-A port, plus solar, car and lead-acid charging inputs. These suit an RV owner or camper who wants a couple of extra days of lights, fans and electronics. They also suit someone who wants a battery that can work on its own for small gear.

The B300 and B300S, standalone batteries

$1,399.00

BLUETTI B300S Expansion Battery

$1,499.00

BLUETTI B300S Expansion Battery

$1,799.00

The B300 and B300S are more than a plain battery pack. The retailer says the B300 can act as a portable power station, with a 100W USB-C, a 12V/10A car output and USB-A, and a smart MPPT inside for solar charging. The B300S is listed at 3,072Wh, and its description mentions over 3,500 life cycles and charging by AC, solar or car. If you want one unit that can serve a station now and stand alone later, these are worth a look. Check the listing for which station each version suits.

The B300K, a value pick for larger stations

BLUETTI B300K Expansion Battery

$1,099.00

B300K for AC200L/AC300

$1,099.00

2*B300K for AC200L/AC300

$2,398.00

The B300K holds 2,764.8Wh. The description mentions 4,000+ life cycles and an automotive-grade LiFePO4 cell. Listings cover the AC200L, AC300, AC500 and Apex 300, so match the listing to your station. Bundles of two (5,529.6Wh) or three (8,294.4Wh) are sold for the Apex 300 and AC200L/AC300. Home backup users who want to add capacity in steps may like this route.

BLUETTI B500 Expansion Battery

$3,999.00

The B500K is a 5,120Wh battery, sold for the AC500, AC300/AC200L and Apex 300. Pairs are also listed, such as two for the AC300/AC200L at 10,240Wh. The B500 is a different product: its description says it is compatible with the EP800/EP900 system, adds 4,960Wh, and carries a 10-year warranty. These suit outage backup, where you want hours of runtime for a fridge, lights and more.

How to choose

  • Match the battery to your station. Listings name the models they pair with, so read the name before you buy.
  • Add up your loads in watt hours. Work out what you run and for how long, then add a margin.
  • Check the extra ports. Some batteries add USB-C, USB-A and a 12V car port. Others are plain capacity.
  • Look at solar and charging options. The B300 and B230 descriptions mention solar and car charging.
  • Compare cost per watt hour. Larger batteries and bundles often make the numbers look better than a new, bigger station. Then check that your station's inverter can handle your loads, because a battery adds runtime, not output.
  • Look at the cycle life and warranty in each description.

Questions people ask

Does an expansion battery raise my inverter output?

No. It adds watt hours, which means more running time. The inverter in your station still sets how much you can run at once.

Can I use any battery with any station?

No. The listings name the station each battery is made for, such as the AC60, AC300 or Apex 300. Follow the manual for your model.

Is a bundle better than one battery?

It can be, if you know you need the capacity. If you are unsure, one battery now and a second later is a gentler start.

When is a bigger station the better buy?

When your loads need more output than your inverter gives. Extra capacity cannot fix that.
