Solar Cables and Connectors
Your panels are unfolded, your station is charged to about half, and the cable in the bag does not fit anything. Connectors and cable length decide whether solar reaches your battery cleanly or not at all. This page walks through the main cable types so you can match plugs, reach and panel count before you buy.
Single-panel charging cables
The simplest job is one panel feeding one station. Here you need a cable with MC4 on the panel side and the right plug on the station side. Smaller stations such as the B80 or EB3A use a round DC7909 style input, and a MC4 to DC7909 cable is made for that pairing. It suits weekend campers with a compact station and a single portable panel.
Larger stations with an XT60 solar input take a different plug. MC4 to XT60 cables come in 10A and 20A versions. Check the amperage against what your panel and station input are rated for, and follow the manual. The 20A version gives more headroom if your setup pushes more current.
Parallel and Y branch cables
Two panels into one input means joining them in parallel. A Y branch pair does this at the MC4 level: one male to two female, and one female to two male. Its listed rated current is 30A. It suits anyone adding a second panel of the same kind to an existing setup.
If your station has an XT60 PV input, a dedicated XT60 to MC4 parallel cable combines two panels into a single input. It is described as designed for BLUETTI stations with an XT60 PV input and up to 25 A. That makes it a tidy choice when you want the join to sit right at the station.
Extension cables
Panels often need to sit in sun while the station stays in shade, in the tent or inside the cabin. An MC4 extension cable lets you place panels farther away for better exposure and a cleaner setup. They are listed as compatible with BLUETTI solar panels. The 5M length suits a van or campsite. The 10M gives more freedom for a patio or a yard.
Longer runs add resistance, so choose the length you need and not much more. Measure from the panel to the station before ordering.
SolarX 4K and high-input adapter cables
Big home backup batteries use heavier connectors, and the cables reflect that. The SolarX 4K locking terminal cables link to the Apex 300, B300, B300K, B300S, AC300 and AC500 families. One adapter goes to a P090D plug for a single Apex 300. Others go to XT60 for parallel use or to P150D for the AC500 and B300S. The P090D listing mentions up to 4 kW of solar power.
The parallel version, with XT60 on the other end, is for setups where more than one unit is joined.
Wiring packs and battery connection cables
If you are building a setup from scratch, a wiring pack gathers the basics in one purchase. It suits first-time buyers who would rather not hunt for each piece.
A different problem is linking an external battery to a station. The P090D to MC4 cable is listed in several versions, for DC7909, XT90 and MC4 ends, each at 150cm. They cover models such as the EB150, EB240, AC180, AC200, AC200P and EP500 Pro. Check which end your model needs.
How to choose
- Match the plug first. Look at your station's solar input (DC7909, XT60, P090D or P150D) and buy the cable that ends in it.
- Check the amperage. The 10A and 20A XT60 cables are not interchangeable in every setup, so compare them with your panel and input ratings.
- Count your panels. One panel needs a single cable. Two panels need a parallel option.
- Measure the distance. Add extension length only as needed.
- Confirm compatibility. Check the model list in each description before you order.
Questions people ask
Can I use any MC4 cable with any panel?
MC4 is a common panel connector, but the station end and the current rating still matter. Read the listing and your manual.
Do I need an extension cable?
Only if the panel has to sit farther from the station than its own lead reaches. Otherwise skip it.
What is the difference between the 10A and 20A XT60 cables?
The number is the current rating. Pick the one that suits your panel and station input.
How do I connect two panels?
Use a parallel cable, either the MC4 Y branch pair or the XT60 to MC4 parallel cable, depending on where you want the join.
